The last night of our trip, we took a dinner cruise which departed from Navy Pier. Yes, it was still cold. Remember in an earlier post where I said I brought my big winter coat? Well, I am so glad I did. This coat reminds me of the coats hotel bellmen wear in the winter. That thing is warm. Anyway, it came in handy because after we departed the group shuttle bus, we had to stand outside for roughly 15 minutes. Most of the men only had on blazers or suit jackets. Ken and I came prepared! I bet he could have sold that hat to a few men for a pretty good price. Come to think of it, I probably could have sold my coat, too.
So, we finally board the Spirit of Chicago cruise ship. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. We heard there was an open bar and as we waited in the cold, we decided we were getting 2 hot drinks. We're not big drinkers and usually share a glass of wine. Not this time, we wanted something hot - 2 something hots. That wasn't going to happen. They offered beer, a red wine and champagne. Oh well..... I opted for the champagne and Ken had the wine. The cruise was a dinner cruise. The food wasn't half bad for buffet food. There was a tossed salad, tilapia, roasted chicken, roast beef, seafood pasta in a marinara sauce, mashed potatoes and a veggie medley which was very good.
The ship has three levels. The bottom two have dance floors and dj's. Let me tell you - the lower level was hoppin'. It was a group of young kids. I never saw any of them so I am not sure how young they were. We could hear their music from the staircase which was close to our table. We had Barry Manilow. I like Barry, but we needed something lively. Someone else must have thought the same because our dj changed the music a bit. We were able to see the wonderful Chicago city skyline in the day light and at night from our window. The 3 hour cruise would have been perfect if the weather had been nice and we could have gone outside on the deck. Maybe next time.
All in all, it was a great time with great company.
Here is our final shot leaving the city. Check out the waves!
