Farmers Markets - Indy Style

Spring and summer always remind me of Farmers Markets. The very first FM I ever attended in Indy was with my friend Mel somewhere in downtown Indy. It was a rainy day, but I remember how fun it was shopping for fresh locally grown produce and other locally crafted items. My husband and I began shopping FM's shortly after we were married. We've attended the Broad Ripple Farmers Market among others. You may remember from an older post that when I worked downtown, the City Market Wednesday Farmers Market was the one I frequented most. They have a HUGE variety of items. Fresh Flowers for my desk for $5? Why yes, please! Seriously - can you beat that? I'm talking a big ole bunch of flowers.

Anyway, it's that time of year again. We visited our first FM on Friday evening. Yep, Friday. The Traders Point Creamery Farmers Market runs from 4PM to 8PM every Friday. We saw everything from Meats, eggs and dairy products to honey, jewelry and truffles.

I am not sure if most of the produce was sold out by the time we arrived or if there weren't many for sale. I did miss buying fresh tomatoes there. We went right after work and had to rush thru as we were heading to work out. The vendors were sold nice and helpful. The great thing about the Traders Point Creamery is the fact that you can go to the restaurant for dinner or grab a smoothie from the smoothie bar during or after your shopping.
We decided to visit the City Market Farmers Market on Saturday morning to grab some produce. K, my sister, N and niece, G  and I all went. Normally, the street in front of the City Market is blocked off and full of vendors selling items. Guess what? No vendors or blocked off streets. We go inside the building and find two open vendors. Produce and Jazzy Doris' Baked Goods. Apparently, no one else showed up. Really? Ok - so, we purchase our produce - which was pretty good looking actually. We also purchased some items from Jazzy Doris. Needless to say, we were all very disappointed. Oh, well. We'll try Broad Ripple's Farmer's Market next week.

Shula's - empty plate, but not for long....

Salmon, 22 oz. Porterhouse,Sauteed Spinach, Hunking Big Potato

Ken's Birthday Truffles (Homemade) from the staff at Shula's

Later that day, K and I had a dinner date at Shula's. Shula's has these awesome steaks and is football themed, but in a classy way. Dark woods and leather. Very manly. The food is delicious. We've been there a few times and the food is DELICIOUS! This time was no exception.
