Leaving on a Jet Plane

So, you are taking a trip. If you are like me, it's always a struggle to decide how much to take. Especially given the cost of taking a bag on most airlines. I am truly becoming a huge fan of Southwest Airlines and their "Bags Fly Free" program. I wasn't always a fan - didn't like the no assigned seating program.

Well, we used them when we traveled for my birthday party celebration in Vegas last April. I LOVE them! Evidently, now you can pay a small fee for Early boarding and not worry so much about your seating. AND MY BAGS FLY FREE!!!!

This really isn't a post about Southwest Airlines.  It's about packing. I'd like to share some handy tools I have found for making sure you pack the right things for your trip and a list for things you want to do during your travels.

Typically, I have used the old faithful pen and paper to make my list. I still use this method when I need to jot something down, but I don't use it as my final checklist before I go.

Eagle Creek has  a great paper check list for you die hard pen and paper fans found here.

For you iPhone/iPad users, I have found that Packing Pro is my new best friend. It includes pre-trip planning, essentials, clothes, accessories, toiletries, medical/health, gadgets, and miscellaneous lists. This one is great because it can be updated as you go without having to carry extra paper with you.
Traveling with pets or children? There is a list for that on the app as well. Have several trips planned? You can set up a different list for each trip. It keeps them all stored together in one handy app.

It seems I always tend to forget something on our trips. It is convenient most times to go and buy the things you have forgotten once you arrive. However, who wants to spend the extra money for shopping at the hotel gift shop - not to mention the tax rate may be higher than where you live.  It's just easier to make sure you pack it before you go.

Happy Travels!
