Fall Fun - Indy Style

One of our favorite things to do in the fall is to take our doggies for one last stroll along the Canal in downtown Indy. The pups are teeny things - so, we do most of the walking and carrying. Yet, we all still have the best time. We'll pack water and a little food for the pups and a lunch for us. We'll stop a lot and talk to other doggie lovers.

Another thing we love doing is visiting local apple orchards. We usually hit one a year - which is quite enough for us. We always get way too many apples because we can't decide which ones we like THE best that year. I also make at least one apple pie from the batch.

Here are a list of Fall activities. These are all tied to the Indy area, but I am sure you can find similar activities in your neck of the woods.

White River Canal:

Segway Tours on the Canal. I am NOT one to do this, but my husband has with his team at work. He had a blast! Segway Tours of Indiana offers tours for $45/pp. You can get more info here. Please note that riders must be 14 years of age.

You can rent all sorts of fun things on the canal - paddle boats, a wide variety of bikes, even take in a gondola ride. Check out all rentals here.

Anderson Orchard:

This orchard is located in Mooresville, IN. We started going here about 5 years ago. It's a bit of a drive for us, but we can see all of the beautiful trees. Not only do they have apples, they have other fruits and vegetables (in season). Check out there website here and you can see which ones they have available each month. Don't forgetthe concession stand - it's FULL of all sorts of goodies: cider, fried biscuits with homemade apple butter, carmel apple fondues, carmel apples, hot dogs and so much more.

Brown County - Nashville, Indiana:

Another beautiful, scenic drive is one you can make going to Brown County. It's a charming area with all sorts of quant little shops, tasty restaurants and friendly strangers. Many people make their yearly pigramage there every year. I haven't been in years - we may just need to make a trip there this year. There is so much to do here - horse back riding, art, theatre, music. You can even grab a relaxing message. Want to stay the weekend? Check out the rental cabins. You may need to book those well in advance depending on the time of year. I imagine it gets pretty busy during the fall season. Be sure to visit this site for more info.

Wicked Workshop:

This event is at the Children's Museum in Indianapolis. From their website: Wicked Workshop—The Children's Museum Guild's 49th Annual Haunted House—will take visitors to a wild and whimsical factory where Winny the Witch and her hard-working Witchkins make everything you need for Halloween!

Don't worry about your little ones (or you)  being too afraid, they offer a Light's on Hour option. The hours and days are listed on the website. The cost is $7/pp for non-members and $6.50/pp for members. Children under 2 are free. You can also get discount tickets at MArsh supermarkets, AAA locations and The Children's Museum store.
