I was inspired by Teresa from Blooming on Bainbridge blog to create a post about my daily must do's. Things that help keep me centered. She has a great post here about her daily items. So, I got to thinking, what are my must do's and what would I like to add to my must do's? Everyone has them, the little things you do every day - probably that you take for granted, but that make a world of difference when you don't do them.
.) Thank God daily for His many blessings. This is so important because if I don't take that moment to be thankful, I lose focus. Really. Thanking God and praying for others makes you realize just how blessed I truly am. If you saw the movie The Help, you remember the main character had a prayer list. I keep saying I am going to start one. I really need to do that. How many times during the day do I say "I'll pray for you (your family, your situation, etc.)". Having a journal to remember is a must.
.) Hug my hubby and my pups. Taking the time to let your loved ones know that you love them and showing them makes everyone happy. We all get so busy with life and tend to take our constants for granted. Most times we honestly don't even realize we have until something drastic happens. Make time....it makes a difference.
.) Drink LOTS of water. I drink at least 8 - 8 ounce glasses of water each day. Moore often than not I drink more. It's easier to do during the week. I grab my huge (24 ounce) Starbucks cup - fill it with a bit of ice and water. It does a body good. Word on the street is that you should drink it a room temp , but I just need a little ice......
.) Eating several small, healthy meals through out the day. I JUST started this practice but plan to make it a life style change. Eating every few hours helps to keep your metabolism going. I have 4 healthy small meals thru the day with at least 3 healthy snacks in between. It's all about the healthy foods and portion control. I love the way I feel and I am never hungry.
.) Cleanse and moisturize my face. I can not stress enough the importance of doing this. You know how when you are sick and you may not feel like bathing or washing your face? Then, when you do you feel better. That's because you've gotten the grubbies out of the way - at least a few of them. Cleansing and moisturizing also help to keep your skin and face looking young and healthy. My cousin swears by Ivory soap for her face. She is in her mid fifties and has radiant skin.
.) Surround myself with positive people. Negative people just suck the life out of me. Constant complaining is a bore. I say "Do something about it." All of the people in my life are truly spiritual, fun, uplifting people. This goes for my family, friends, everyone. I also practice this in what I watch on TV or read. I used to be a "reality" tv junky. So much negative energy and I was letting in my home. I still watch some reality, but it's good reality - The Biggest Loser, etc. I have also become hooked again on Touched by an Angel! Love, love, love that show........
.) Get enough sleep. My mother still likes to tell people that she never had any problems with getting me to go to sleep when I was younger. I wasn't much of a partier because I was sleeping when most of my friends where just getting ready to go out. Besides, I like getting up in the morning and enjoying the early hours of the day. I still get to bed pretty early for most people. I need my 8 hours. Sleep times vary for everyone. So, get at least what the minimum is for you.
.) Drink Green Tea. This to me is an acquired taste. My husband has been drinking at least one cup every day for years. I would drink it on occasion, but it is now a part of my daily routine. Green tea has many health benefits. One being that it helps to reduce the risk of cancer. (Yep, that's a picture of coffee in a coffee mug, but it's my favorite cup to drink my green tea from.)
.) Make Our Bed Daily. My mother used to make us make our beds EVERY morning before anything else. I swore I wouldn't make my bed up when I grew up and had my own place. Ha! Mama knows best. When I don't make up our bed, it just feels wrong. It nice to come home to a made bed. Also, I'm usually too tired when I go to bed to try to straighten out. It usually only takes about 5 minutes to make the bed - pillows and all. Not long at all and so worth it for me.
.) Workout. This doesn't mean I have to do a full on workout. Just some form of working out - taking the stairs instead of the escalator. Walking a lap around one floor of the mall (no shopping) during a break - these types of things. Something to keep movement going.
