We have been in our home for a little over three years now. One of the first things I did when we moved in was to plant bulbs. I learned this lesson at our old home. I planted when we moved in there as well. They were both new construction, so it was easy to place the bulbs were I wanted.
I love planted bulbs because the come back every year and just get bigger and better every year.
My favorites are day lilies. These guys have gotten so big this year. If you decide to plant them, make sure you give them plenty of room to grow. I made the mistake of planting one small plant in between two hydrangeas. Well, as big as it is it gets lost between the two HUGE hydrangeas. I'll transplant it in the fall.
I have two rose bushes - the real deal rose bushes. I was always a little scared to plant these because everyone said how hard they are to maintain. I didn't really do much to mine and they are beautiful. One thing I did notice was that the bugs do tend to like to eat the leaves. It's important that I spray them at least once a week. We had two in the front of the house - one by the entry way and the other in front of our garage windows. We moved the one in front of the garage windows to the back yard. So far so good.
I also have a few Knockout Rose bushes. These are super easy to grow. The gorgeous little roses come back every year and do not require much maintenance at all.
Thankfully, we've had lots of spring showers this year. I'm hoping this summer produces more rain than last year.
What flowers do you have in your garden?
