Pick 5: Picnic Style by eegrego160 on Polyvore
I love picnics. Picnics can be romantic or they can be a time of family fun. Whatever, I love them.
There are a few essentials each picnic MUST have:
- Picnic Basket: This doesn't have to be a fancy one. In fact, you can even use some of the great recyclable bags grocery stores have. I've also used some of my larger purses as picnic bags. The point is - you just need something great to carry your goodies in.
- Drink stakes: These are wonderful for making sure your drinks don't topple over. I especially love the ones that hold your glasses and the beverage of choice.
- Picnic Blanket: again - this doesn't have to be something fancy. We've used comforters before. Somehow when we first got married, we had an abundance of comforters. These are great for picnics.
- Eating Utensils: I keep seeing these wooden guys all over. They are super adorable. Of course, you can also just pack a few of your own pieces of flat wear if you choose to glam it up a bit.
- Food: I adore these wrapped sandwiches - baguette style. They remind me of Paris. We enjoyed these while in Paris a few years ago. We were just outside of the cafe where we purchased them. I have been a fan ever since. Food is a HUGE part of the picnic. Since it is a special time, we usually like to grab something from a local deli or local restaurant to eat.
One last thing (so, I guess this really makes 6) - BUG REPELLENT. Some folks like Off! - Some choose SSS (Skin So Soft), others choose citronella. Just make sure you bring some. Your picnic won't be much fun if you are constantly shooing off flies. I've read where you can put a penny (one from before 1980) in a plastic bag filled with water to help shoo off the flies. I have yet to try this, but plan to this year. The penny should be before 1980 so that it contains copper.
I hope you make many wonderful picnic memories this year. Remember, you don't have to go somewhere fancy - your own back yard could be the place!
