Travel Thursday - Indy Style

We are just starting to plan our next vacation. Can I tell you how much I love vacationing?

We don't really plan to do a major trip this year because with the new job, it's just not a good time to take a whole week off at a time.

We do plan to take a trip to Chicago (one of my favorite cities) to visit some dear friends of ours.

We also plan to be tourists in our own city. You know doing the things that visitors do when they come to our city.

I am actually pretty excited about that. Indy has so much to offer. There are so many little sections of the city that we plan to visit: Broad Ripple, Mass Avenue, Fountain Square - just to name a few.

We also plan to walk the Indianapolis Cultural Trail (shown above). The Indianapolis Cultural Trail opened officially on May 11th, 2013.  Their website describes it best:

The Indianapolis Cultural Trail: A Legacy of Gene & Marilyn Glick is a world-class urban bike and pedestrian path that connects neighborhoods, Cultural Districts and entertainment amenities, and serves as the downtown hub for the entire central Indiana greenway system.
The five downtown cultural districts connected by the Indianapolis Cultural Trail include Fountain Square, Indiana Avenue, Mass Ave, The Canal & White River State Park, and the Wholesale District. The Cultural Trail will also connect with the Monon Trail, allowing visitors easy access to Broad Ripple Village from downtown.
The Cultural Trail is made possible by a large public and private collaboration led by Central Indiana Community Foundation, the City of Indianapolis and several not-for-profit organizations devoted to building a better city.

I excited about grabbing some walking shoes, my hubby and the pups (weather permitting) and walking the trail this spring/summer. I'll be sure to take photos along the way to share.

Have you ever played tourist in your own city/state? I'd love to hear about it.
Also, Indy folks - what are some must sees? We are open to suggestions!
