Kate Spade Grand Opening - Indy style

I am sure you all know about my love for Kate Spade. You've also read about my excitement that the brand was finally going to have an Indy presence.

Well, they made it here on May 24th. I didn't venture up that way until the grand opening/blogger event     on May 30th.

Blogger Jessica Quirk of What I Wore (pictured above) was the featured guest. She is super tall and I loved the dress she selected to wear for the event.

After grabbing a delicious (as always) small frozen yogurt from Pinkberry, my aunt and I headed to the grand opening event. This of course after she made a wonderful purchase from lulu lemon.

Kate Spade is most easily reached by entering at the Cheesecake - Crate and Barrel entrance.  It's just across from the Coach store. Michael Kors is coming June 13 and will be in the same wing.

The store is brightly lit with tons of color. It really speaks to the company motto of "Live Colorfully".
There is a lot of color. All of the employees were decked out in Kate Spade gear and looked fabulous.

They offered cute mini cupcakes, mini bottles of coke and Pelligrino as opening treats. The store was full in a matter of minutes after we arrived. I mean full!

The entrance to the store showcases the jewelry items as well as a few purses. The back section has the shoes, clothing and again more of their fabulous purses.

There was a crowd around the cash register area. I wondered if everyone just knew what they wanted and was ready to purchase. Nope that wasn't it. There was a raffle for a brand new Kate Spade bag. It was gorgeous. Just my style - black, cream and British tan. The ladies and a few gents were signing up to win. Yep, we jumped in that line with a quickness.

One of the employees had a wonderful stack of bracelets. So, I decided that is what I would look at. I don't need another bag!  I love that the bracelets are fun and whimsical. They look great stacked with my Michael Kors Runway watch.

The discount they offered was wonderful. The purchasing line at the register was HUGE. Granted they only had two registers, but I don't think during the course of a normal day they would need many more than that. It will certainly get busy during the holiday season, but I still think two is doable.

I had a great time and hope the new store does well..............

Now if we can just get a Tory Burch store here.................

Stylin' Saturday - Accessories

I am a huge fan of big, giant, bold rings and bracelets. As much as I love them, it can be a challenge to wear them at work. The bangles tend to get in the way when I am using my keyboard. Yet, it doesn't stop me from wearing them. My desk is usually beautifully decorated with bracelets by the end of the day!

Seriously, who wouldn't want a hand full of rings like THESE?

Now on to the bangles:

Kate Spade has some great bangles. You can usually catch them on sale and many times they have some great ones thru the Sample Sales on line. You just need sign up for email updates. Also, if you live near a Kate Spade outlet, they have GREAT deals on multiples.

Travel Tuesday: Chicago

I  have to tell you that Chicago is probably one of my favoritest (i know, I know) places in the world. We are fortunate enough to live only 3 hours away. So, we are able to get there whenever we feel the urge.

I remember my first trip to Chicago many, many, many years ago. A group of friends and I traveled there for the Taste of Chicago. The Taste of Chicago is held in Grant Park and showcases the diversity of Chicago's dining community. The festival also showcases many bands. The girls and I had a ball! I was hooked. This years event is being held July 10th thru 14 from 11AM - 9PM

We've traveled to Chicago for Musicals - Wicked, The Color Purple and a few others. The Ford Center/Oriental Theatre is a beautiful place where we have enjoyed many a great play. Crazy as it sounds, we went to Chicago in the winter to see Wicked a few years back with a group of friends. Believe me, it was cold. I mean is was very cold - Chicago cold, but I loved it!

There are a few restaurants that we must go to when we visit Chicago:
 Giordano's Pizza and Wishbone.

  •  Giordano's has (in my opinion) THE best pizza ever. Honestly, one slice is usually enough for most people. You MUST there is you go to Chicago. Giordano's was founded in 1974. Can't get to Chicago to try it or just need a fix? You can order it online here. Yikes, I wish I didn't know that - lol!

  • Wishbone is described as Southern Reconstruction Cooking. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I know that it is good  eating. Since it's located one block from Harpo Studios, we've eaten there just about every time we went to an Oprah show taping. I ALWAYS get the same thing - eggs fried HARD, cheesy grits and blackened catfish. (Wonder what I would get now that I am a Shredder?) Check out the website here.

We get the best hotel deals when we purchase through Priceline or even Groupon. You can get 4-5 Star hotels for a great deal. Many of the hotels are boutique hotels which we tend to like. We (well, I do)  like to stay within an area near or on Michigan Avenue. Close to the action. This next trip, I am searching for a hotel near the Oak Street Beach. We've stayed at The Drake, but looking for something else. It's just a lucky coinkydink that Oak Street Beach is very near Oak Street which is where Kate Spade and Tory Birch stores are..........................................

Be sure to check out Chicago's many, many museums. They have some of the best. You'll likely spend a whole day in one alone. The Field Museum is a massive natural history museum. Be sure to check the times for all museums when you visit.

One trip we always make when we visit Chicago is a trip to Evanston - home of the Northwestern Wildcats. This is where my husband went to Graduate School. Many found memories for him when we go. we now always visit one of his (and now my) favorite restaurants - Davis Street Fish Market. This restaurant was a cozy little place when he went and even the first few years of our marriage. A few years ago, they remodeled and it kind of lost that feel. However, the food is still as delicious as ever!

Vegas - Aria 2012 pt.3

Source: google.com via Milenka on Pinterest

We FINALLY made it over to the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace to the Kate Spade and Tory Burch stores. The picture above are from Pinterest and NOT the actual Vegas store. I guess I was too busy shopping to take a photo.

I purchased my KS Travel wallet in nude patent here. I wasn't crazy about the leather on the TB phone case that I had been drooling over on line. I am so glad that I saw it in person before purchasing. The TB store is very small and is usually busy with folks. I was able to get assisted right away. Although, the salesperson seemed harried and brought back the wrong item that I asked for. Oh, well.......

The ladies at Kate Spade were a pleasure to work with. I am in love with my travel wallet(s) - see this post.

We also visited the Flamingos at The Flamingo Hotel. I have been wanting to do this for quite some time. The best part was the two toned swan. Isn't she/he gorgeous?

We did a little more site seeing of the hotels with our friend. Then, off to the Premium Outlet North mall. There I purchased my other travel wallet from Kate Spade as well as a black continental wallet and coin purse/card case from Tory Burch. I like the leather on the TB wallets at the outlet much better than the Saffiano leather.

Back to the hotel we go - I am pooped.

Part 4 coming tomorrow - be sure to head back......

Friday Fave - Travel Wallet

Source: ebay.com via Eden on Pinterest

If you have traveled even once, then you will appreciate this item. It's a travel wallet. You know how you fumble around with your passport, boarding passes and claim tickets? I know I do. I used to have a plastic protector that I kept all of our travel papers in. Our passports are kept in our own individual passport covers (thanks, Kate Spade).  All until I stumbled upon travel wallets. Different designers make them and they are perfect for storing everything. I purchased two while we were in Las Vegas. One from the Kate Spade outlet store and the other from the Kate Spade store in the Forum Shops of Caesar's Palace. One is a nude patent color and is the size of a clutch. The other is an ostrich skin red/orange. It's a bit smaller than the other.  I used the patent one on our trip back. PERFECTION!!!
Everything fit in one space - no need for a separate passport holder or my plastic folder.

If you head over to Kate Spade right now, you can snag this bright colored one for $114 - great deal! Sign up for their email and get 15% off........
Do you have a favorite travel accessory? I'd love  to know.......

Brand New Goodies

We recently took a trip to Vegas. Here are a few of the goodies I purchased. The Kate Spade box contains a tan patent leather travel wallet. I LOVE travel wallets. You can place your passports, boarding passes, etc in one handy spot. The red one is also a travel wallet. Guess I'll need to do more traveling!

Kate Spade Westward Collection

Photo Credit: Cheetah is the New Black

It is no secret that I am a huge Kate Spade fan. I love the traditional style with just the right touch of whimsy to make the lines items current. The Westward Collection is no exception. This is their newest collection created along with style LA based stylists and fashion designers Emily Current and Merrit Elliot. BTW - I love the name Merrit! I am a sparkly sort of girl and the collection adds just the right amount of sequin splashes to some of the bags.  The Runaway Duffle has to be my favorite of the line.

Oh, and my latest addition is the new iPhone case - in a quirky black and white animal print with pink trim.   I'll share a photo as soon as it arrives!

Have you seen the new  line? What do you think?

Friday Favorite

Product Image. Title: Jane Street in Poppy Red/Peacock

NOOKcolor screen
A few years ago, I founded a book club. The book club, Sophia, had roughly 10 members and we met for 5 years every other month. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting with the group and catching up. For some reason, I found it hard to read the current selection - sometimes waiting until the morning of to finish the majority of the book. I think it may have been a control issue - LOL.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE to read. I just want to do it when I want to do it. While we were building our new home, I decided to take up reading again. This time, I read on my iPhone using the nook app. A few months ago, I upgraded to the nookcolor. I can not get enough of it. I don't even know how many books I have been thru on it. I even use it in church and at night to read the Holy Bible. My favorite genre is mystery, but I also love that I can read most of my fave magazines on my nookcolor as well.
Kate Spade has some great covers, but the cutest ones are the ones for the 1st generation nook. Didn't bother me, I still purchased two - on sale!- and made my nookcolor fit - LOL.
Do you have an electronic reader? If so, which one? What do you use to cover it?
Enjoy your weekend....
Oh, BTW - the bulbs I planted in the fall are coming in nicely. No blooms yet, but I am just happy to see the green.
